Buying a Digital Camera today can get very confusing very fast.  It seems like every model will give different functions for different conditions.  The good news is that the new digital cameras are so easy to work a child can shoot like a pro.

Digital cameras can now be found in just about any cell phones too and they can take some amazing pictures.  You are now able to combine multiple functions into one devise to carry.  Cell phone, camera and even video cameras can all be rolled into one thing to carry instead of having to carry around three.

Like just about everything these days, the most confusing part of buying something is all of the different models, brands and features.

Standard Features to Ponder

It doesn’t matter who the manufacturer of the camera is, there are some common features that you should consider before buying.  The first is the cameras mega-pixel.

In basic terms, the mega-pixel refers to the number of dots that it takes to make a picture.  So if you are looking at a camera that has 3 mega-pixels, it would not have as high of a quality as a camera with 5 mega-pixels.  The higher the mega-pixels the better the quality and usually a higher cost.

The other factor of a higher mega-pixel is that it will be able to be enlarged with a higher quality and more clarity.  Memory will also be a factor with mega-pixels of a camera.  You will want to make sure that you have greater memory storage with a higher mega-pixel count.

The zoom functionality is also another feature to consider.  Zoom can be a permanent lens that you will find on some of the more basic camera, that is a simple zoom and click.  Or, more expensive models that have interchangeable lens.  Both options usually have editing software that you can use to touch up your pics.

It’s easy to be overwhelmed with all of the different models and features to choose from.  The best thing that you can do is to first set a budget and stick with it.  Next is to make a list of how you are going to be using the camera and the type of features that you will need for that use.  This will definitely help you narrow down the selection process and keep you from getting a digital camera with more bells and whistles than you will use.
